It’s a New Year.
When we first dreamed up andieanderin, it was the start of 2017. The inauguration was set to take place soon as well as the largest single day protest in U.S. history: the Women’s March of January 21, 2017.
We didn’t think 2020 could come soon enough, but now that it is here, we want to enter the new decade with bright eyes and open minds. As well as a continued mission to propel women’s stories to the forefront.
We haven’t done this before, but ringing in a new decade and a year that is as monumental as the one we have ahead of us, we want to share a list of, frankly random things we are crushing on as we enter the new decade.
We hope it is no surprise to hear that we love to learn about and support women in all facets of the word. You will see that theme woven into most of the “things” we have listed below.
Hope you enjoy! And feel free to share any comments below or email us at email@example.com. Both of us check that email account. We’d love to hear anything you are crushing on or a simple hello :)
Co-founders, Lisa and Cara
Shopping Women Owned
This is top of the list because we all shop all year long and really, it means more than just shopping. Through launching a small business, we have been introduced to some of the most amazing women and we want to see that they succeed! Thankfully there are new(er) organizations like Dough and We Are Women Owned that have enabled us to find all the hidden women-owned gems out there!
Stylist Karla Welch
We have been crushing on famed stylist Karla Welch for a couple years now. Even before Hollywood Reporter named her the Most Powerful Stylist of 2017. So we plan this love affair to continue into 2020 and beyond. Pretty much, her style is on point and her clientele is amazing: Busy Phillips, Tracee Ellis Ross, Olivia Wilde, Sarah Paulson - the list goes on. We just want to be in her presence and maybe…….have her style a necktie or two :)
Strong Female Friendships
We are talking Tina and Amy, Oprah and Gayle, Nicole and Naomi, Marlo and Gloria, Ilana and Abbi. More of these in the spotlight now and always! Also, this!
Cara has seen the film and can’t say enough! In her own words, she was enraptured, and loved the youthfulness of the story and the amazing cast that brought the film to life. Greta Gerwig has been a favorite of ours for years. Have you seen Frances Ha or 20th Century Women? If no, please stream now!
It’s time for some binge watching. Lisa has a magnet on her fringe that is a daily reminder to get on it! There are 180 half-hour episodes over seven seasons. Hulu, here we come!
Bows have been all over the runway in the fashion weeks of the last two years. They are also killing in on the red carpet. We have no crystal ball, but we will kiss it and kindly ask that this trend continues. We then hope selfishly that people find us and get a power necktie for their closet!
We want it! We want to know what you love and loathe about andieanderin? Who should inspire an upcoming necktie design? How can we grow - do you know the secret sauce? Should we do a brand ambassador or referral program? Does anyone know Oprah because we want to know her??? That sounded desperate, we don’t need to ‘know her’, just be in the vicinity...once. I mean, aren’t we all a little desperate to be in Oprah's presence? On a very related topic, do you follow @jznotthatjayz? He is a true gem and just got promoted to Social Media Editor for Oprah Magazine after five years of being Gayle King's assistant at the magazine. Definitely worth a follow - he will brighten your day.
We didn’t finish this series!!! And it is done! We feel terrible even admitting it! This year will not end without every Broad City episode being tuned into.
Dolly Parton's America
Have you tuned in to Dolly Parton's America podcast yet? It is fabulous! Not only is Dolly on the podcast, but they dive deep into her career to find out how she has rose to one of the most liked people in the world attracting a diverse fan base. A writer for Forbes named it the Best Podcast of 2019. We are half way through and in love! Just yesterday, Lisa was listening on her subway commute and had to write down the following line from Dolly because it was just that good.
"Of course I want to go to Heaven, but do I have to look like Hell to get there!"
- Dolly Parton arguing with her grandfather over wearing makeup to church when she was younger
We could go on, but instead, let us know what you are crushing on this new year!
