We are continuing our 'how to tie' necktie series with the 'Sailor Knot'. This tie option is great for most any length necktie. It is also a great styling option for the spring and summer months, giving your neck a little more breathing room on warm days.
Check out the steps below to give her a try!
Here is a full preview of the steps and below are the steps you can follow individually.
Step 1: Start with the necktie resting on the back of your neck and the ends laying at equal length.
Step 2: if you have a longer necktie or are looking to wear it short, wrap her around your neck. You can do this multiple times depending on the length you want to end with.
Step 3: let her hang semi evenly, with one end just slightly longer than the other.
Step 4: cross the tails with the slightly longer tail in front
Step 5: using the slightly shorter tail that is on the backside, wrap it around the other tail and the looped section around your neck.
Step 6: pull it around and down
Step 7: keep pulling that same tail end down until you have rolled the knotted part to the back and the other tail end is in front and laying flat. They should be hanging pretty even now
Step 8: Keeping the front tail flat, wrap it around the other tail, from front to back.
Step 9: pull that same tail end through the loop you just created
Step 10: pinch the center section to ensure the front of the knot stays flat and in place, pull the two tails outward to tighten.
Voila! The sailor knot! Again, it can be short to the neck or lay lower on your chest. You control the length!
